What to do

This area of the South Downs is rich in both landscapes and history. On Bignor Hill, the South Downs Way briefly follows the route of the old Roman road Stane Street, and fine mosaics can be seen on the site of Bignor Roman villa.

The attractive town of Petworth is a mecca for antique hunters and hosts a lively arts festival in the summer, and the pretty villages of Amberley, Bury and Fittleworth are well worth exploring.
