The best lunch spots in Winchester

Winchester is a beautiful city. It makes for a great day out as you can explore the infamous cathedral, browse the vast range of shops, and choose from an abundance of eateries where you can refuel and enjoy a tasty bite to eat. Whether you fancy a cosy cuppa and a sandwich in a café, a light salad in a bistro, or even a hearty Italian, Winchester has every option to keep even the pickiest of eaters happily satisfied.

Café Monde

Café Monde is a gorgeous café, just tucked away on the square near the cathedral. The options on the menu range from hearty full English breakfasts, to Lebanese flatbreads and falafel. The interior décor is fun and unique with quirky upcycled chandeliers and retro radios, creating an enjoyable atmosphere to indulge in a delicious lunch.

The St James Tavern

The St James Tavern is the perfect place for a typical pub lunch. Located on Romsey Road heading towards the hospital, the pub offers the favourites of fish and chips, steak, burgers and pies. The pub also prides itself on having an array of events such as pub quizzes and live music. A lively atmosphere and yummy food – what more could you want?

Three Joes Sourdough Pizza

Located in the heart of Winchester on Minster Street, Three Joes is the answer for any Italian enthusiasts. The pizza dough is carefully prepared using the finest Caputo flour before fermenting and chilling for 24 hours, making it perfect for pizza preparation. The menu contains all of the classic pizzas, and if pizza isn’t your calling, there are other options such as a buddha salad and macaroni cheese to keep everyone happy.

Rick Stein

Rick Stein is a renowned chef and his chain of restaurants are a tasty celebration of his favourite flavours from the sea. Specialising in seafood, you can expect to find fresh oysters, scallops, mussels and much more. Although slightly pricier than other lunch restaurants, the atmosphere is still relaxed and welcoming, with a high standard of food that will make you forget about the price tag.
