South Downs cafes are known for their hospitality, warmth and fabulous cakes, not to mention the perfect pot of tea. If you are busy planning a trip to the South Downs and fancy stopping off in beautiful Brighton, then you really must pop into one of these 4 fabulous independent cafes.

1. Wheat & Beans

This cute Brighton cafe is a family run business, and this is clearly evident as soon as you step through the door. Located in the very heart of Brighton along St. James Street, it’s the perfect location for a spot of lunch or one of their locally admired and much loved afternoon cream teas. They even roast their own coffee beans so you can take a bag home with you.

2. The Blackbird Tea Room

This cafe screams everything vintage, and you really do feel as if you have stepped back in time. You can grab an all day breakfast here, the locals highly recommend you do, with food choices including their scrumptious French toast that is topped with lashings of cinnamon. They also only use the highest quality tea leaf blends, so if you are a real tea connoisseur, then this is the place to be.

3. Cafe Marmalade

Even this cafe’s name sounds inviting, and it truly is. This is the ideal Brighton cafe if you are a vegan, or eat gluten free foods. Once a humble food truck, this exciting cafe has now become one of the hottest places to be in Brighton. Their salads and quiche are made fresh on the premises every day. Even better, no two days are the same as they constantly reinvent their fab food menu.

4. Ground Coffee

If you are a real coffee lover, then you simply have to visit Ground Coffee. These are the coffee specialists of Brighton and take great pride in brewing up the perfect cup. They make all coffee drinks, plus a range of speciality teas, including chai tea. Also, if you are travelling with your dog, they are very welcome too.
