The market town of Petersfield lies within the East Hampshire AONB, sheltered to the south and west by the South Downs and surrounded by magnificent countryside, from the chalk downland and open hilltops of the Downs to the steep slopes of the ‘hanger’ woodlands.
The area has many interesting places to visit, from historic houses like Jane Austen’s house at Chawton, naturalist Gilbert White’s home at Selborne and romantic 17th century Uppark to potteries, a teddy bear museum and a steam railway.
Explore charming old villages like East Meon and Buriton, and look out for traditional country pubs serving real ales and good food. Nature reserves include Ashford Hangers, Beacon Hill and Harting Down, all home to a variety of wild flowers, rare butterflies, birds and other wildlife.
