Discover a new hobby in the South Downs

The South Downs National Park is an English national treasure, ranging across the south-eastern coastal counties. The South Downs has always been a popular tourist destination, offering scenic landscapes and being close to the sea. On your next visit to the South Downs, consider trying a different activity that could turn into your new hobby. There are so many activities available in the South Downs that you are guaranteed to find a great new hobby during your stay.

Horse riding

The gorgeous countryside of the South Downs National Park means it is the perfect place to give horse riding a try. There are 1200km of bridleways throughout the National Park which riders can use. If you are completely new to riding, there are many riding schools and stables available. Here you can book a private lesson or a tour to have fun with the whole family.

Cycling

If you have been meaning to get into cycling, then a trip to the South Downs is the perfect place to start. Bring your own bike or rent one and take off down the South Downs Way. This is the UK’s only National Trail which is fully accessible by bike. Consider riding to the Hampshire Hangers, or try Ditchling Beacon. Be sure to take a break at the top to enjoy the stunning views that South Downs has to offer.

Surfing

The South Downs National Park is situated along some of the finest miles of English coast. Therefore, why not give surfing a try? Birling Gap is one of the best surfing spots in the area. Rent a surfboard or bring your own and head out on to the waves for an exhilarating experience. Afterwards, make sure to grab a bite to eat at the lovely local cafés and tea rooms nearby.

Wine tasting

If you’re looking for a new hobby that is less action-based, consider giving wine tasting a go. The South Downs is home to some excellent English vineyards and wineries. Learn more about local wines by sampling the different varieties. You’ll be a wine expert in no time!
