About Visit South Downs

What is Visit South Downs?

Visit South Downs is a private company owned by me, Matt Alsbury-Morris. I’ve created it to promote and support local tourism businesses and their customers. Alongside Visit South Downs, I’ve established a non-profit membership organisation, the South Downs Tourism Partnership, which I want to drive the establishment of to become the independent voice of tourism across the South Downs & surrounding areas. My mission is to deliver a Destination Management Organisation that is ran by tourism for tourism.

How is Visit South Downs funded?

Visit South Downs receives no outside or public funding. We do all our creative & digital work in-house so that we can provide an extremely personal 7-day a week service to the Tourism sector – after all, the hospitality industry never sleeps!

I have a great passion for the South Downs, having been one of the staff of the Park Authority during it’s establishment. I have a background in marketing & digital transformation and I want to use my skills and networks to help put the South Downs properly on the map. 

I absolutely love the South Downs and I’m lucky enough to live on the National Park’s doorstep. I believe the South Downs is a superb destination for holidays, short breaks or day trips.

The Visit South Downs website provides all the information on where to stay, what to do, where to eat and drink and how to get here, and is the perfect shop window to the world for the South Downs and surrounding areas.

We want to support our members of the South Downs Tourism Partnership with free & discounted training courses, business networking events and business showcase days. 

We plan to work withnational and international journalists to organise press visits and media coverage. We want to work alongside travel writers and publications too.

We have a full in-house design service is available to members, meaning artwork can be created FOC or at a very discounted rate, and we have big plans to bring a South Downs Destination Guide out in 2020.

Mission

Our mission is to promote and enable the economy of the South Downs National Park and neighbouring areas to create a world class visitor experience through sustainable tourism, proactive marketing, skills development and relevant industry services.

Destinations

We have defined the destinations we will cover as those within the boundary of the South Downs National Park, or within a short travelling distance (no more than 10 miles). 

If you feel there are additional locations that should be listed on the site, that you cannot see on locations page then please contact us and contribute the information needed to gain the relevant listing.

Travel Guides

Our travel guides content is supported by WikiVoyage & WikiTravel under the Creative Commons BY-SA 3.0 Licence we are progressively working through the information listed to validate it and ensure it is correct and up-to-date, however we cannot be held responsible for any incorrect information listed as a matter of good will.

Within our Destinations and Travel Guides we are developing directories. These are listing to promote the economy of the South Downs National Park and surrounding areas. We will consider listings from the themes below. For details on the costs of listings, please see our membership benefits page.
