About Visit South Downs

What is Visit South Downs?

Visit South Downs is a public/private partnership, led by the South Downs Tourism Partnership – a non-profit set up with the explicit purpose of marketing the South Downs National Park and surrounding areas both nationally and internationally.

How is Visit South Downs funded?

Visit South Downs receives no outside or public funding. We do all our creative & digital work in-house so that we can provide an extremely personal 7-day a week service to the Tourism sector – after all, the hospitality industry never sleeps!

The Visit South Downs website provides all the information on where to stay, what to do, where to eat and drink and how to get here, and is the perfect shop window to the world for the South Downs and surrounding areas.

We want to support our members of the South Downs Tourism Partnership with free & discounted training courses, business networking events and business showcase days.

We plan to work with national and international journalists to organise press visits and media coverage. We want to work alongside travel writers and publications too.

We have a full in-house design service is available to members, meaning artwork can be created FOC or at a very discounted rate, and we have big plans to bring a South Downs Destination Guide out in 2020. We’ve also got a trade event in the planning – but that’s a bit ‘hush hush’ right now.

Who is behind it all?

Matt Alsbury-Morris, an experienced marketing manager with a background of delivering major marketing & new product introduction projects (and turnarounds) with companies like Sky, SSE, nPower, British Gas & British Airways Holidays… he’s also the person who setup the digital platforms & social media for the South Downs National Park Authority during it’s first year of operation.

He’s got a passion about the South Downs which he wants to use to promote and support local tourism businesses and their customers.

The South Downs Tourism Partnership, which was set up to drive the establishment of the independent voice of tourism across the South Downs & surrounding areas, has overall governance of the direction of the Destination Management Organisation – so that this is ran by tourism, for tourism.

Our mission is to promote and enable the economy of the South Downs National Park and neighbouring areas to create a world class visitor experience through tourism, destination marketing, skills development and other relevant industry services.

We have defined the destinations we will cover as those within the boundary of the South Downs National Park, or within a short travelling distance (no more than 10 miles).
