5 Reasons to plan that weekend break in Newhaven

If you want to explore somewhere a little different this summer and are thinking of where to go for a weekend break, then why not plan a trip to Newhaven? This beautiful part of the world is situated in the South Downs and is only a twenty-minute drive from Brighton. Below we share our top 5 things to do when in Newhaven.

1. Wonderful cafes

Part of the joy in visiting any new area is exploring the local cafes and enjoying the local food and hospitality. Newhaven has so many cafes for you to choose from that you’ll be spoilt for choice. Enjoy a coffee at the Newhaven Coffee House that is super friendly and visit the sumptuous Luna Rossa for a bowl of pasta.

2. Space to breathe

If you live in the city and need a break then Newhaven is simply perfect, as there is space to breathe with so many vast open spaces for you to enjoy. Walk along the sea cliffs and visit the breathtaking Castle Hill nature reserve. It’s here that you can also pick fresh fruit for free.

3. There are so many pubs

Nothing beats a pub lunch and an evening pint and the good news is that Newhaven has a lot of lovely warm and friendly pubs. The Bridge Inn is popular and is one of the oldest pubs in Newhaven. The Hope Inn can be found on the beach and it’s here that you can enjoy the best chips in the area.

4. Visit the Fort

When in Newhaven, you have to visit the Fort. Built back in 1871, today the Fort is a popular visitor attraction with its gun-turrets, winding tunnels, and passageways that just need to be explored. You can also enjoy lunch in the Fort Tea Rooms which are 1940s inspired.

If you are a shopaholic then you will love Newhaven. The West Quay Fisheries sells all things seafood, with the best oysters in town. You also have to pay a visit to L’isola Buona, a stunning delicatessen which is where you can grab a sandwich and the best cup of coffee to go.
