3 quirky South Downs hotels

The South Downs is an idyllic part of the world – there are surely fewer more pleasant places to enjoy the English spring or summer. For this reason, it is a hotspot for staycations for Brits considering domestic breaks. And so why not make the experience even more memorable by ensuring that your accommodation is totally unique?

In this blog, we look at three quirky hotel choices which are located in the South Downs:

1. The Old Railway Station

The Old Railway Station at Petworth is recognised as one of the most beautiful railway stations in the world. The good news is, it is now fully restored and operational as a bed and breakfast, with accommodation being provided in Edwardian Pullman carriages. The waiting room of the former transport hub is now a resplendent guest lounge, with its 20ft high ceiling, opening out onto the platform for alfresco breakfast when the weather permits.

2. Amberley Castle

Fancy combining your South Downs break with a stay in a 900-year-old castle? You are welcome to at Amberley Castle, a magnificent medieval fortress which is home to some beautiful gardens, and now also offers an 18-hole golf course. You could walk to this amazing place – which offers a restaurant located in the Queen Room, dating back to the 12th Century – from nearby Amberley Railway Station.

3. Adhurst Yurts

From lofty royal comfort to accommodation situated right in the heart of nature itself. Adhurst Yurts are your opportunity to tap into a new British trend – glamping! Enjoy the rural seclusion and adventure of camping, without having to ‘rough it’. You can expect a full double bed and a wood burning fire in your yurt, bell tent or cabin. That means you can get stuck into the range of physical activities on offer in the area, safe in the knowledge that you will be cocooned in comfort on your return. Adhurst Yurts is off-grid, but don’t worry, thanks to gas power you can still have a hot shower at the end of a day in the Great Outdoors!

So those are three very different suggestions for where to stay during your South Downs vacation. Remember, sometimes the best trips take you away from the norm!
